§ 52.038 DRAINAGE WORK.
Drainage work on the outside of buildings and between buildings and public sewer shall be constructed of vitrified clay pipe or other material equally as good and approved by the Building Commissioner; and shall be laid, when practicable, with a fall toward sewer connections of not less than one-quarter inch to the running foot. All drainage is to be constructed to as near a uniform grade and in as direct line to sewer connections as practical. The pipe and fittings must be of clean and smooth interior, and shall be full area of its respective size. Pipe and fittings shall be put together with a cement mortar composed of one part of portland cement to two parts of clean, sharp sand. Natural cement may be used for wet trench. Each length of pipe and each fitting shall have solid or tramped earth, or other solid and imperishable material under full length of same. A one-fourth bend shall not be used where same can be avoided. No fittings or bend shall be used to change direction of line of drainage, unless the fitting or bend shall be of a radius of not less than 12 inches. Connection of one line of drainage with another shall be made, where at all practical, with full half Y branches. The use of T connections is prohibited. Change in direction of any line of drainage shall not be made by the use of mitered pieces of straight pipe, but shall be made by the use of approved fitting of the required angle. The interior of each joint of pipe or fitting laid shall be swabbed out before another joint is made. No clay or tile pipe or fittings shall be constructed inside, or under any building for drainage purposes having an outlet to any sewer except on written permit from the Building Commissioner. All building sewers run to receive drainage of any kind from buildings shall terminate two feet outside the foundation walls of the building. No tile house sewer shall at any time be laid nearer than two feet to any wall, foundation or footing, except at or nearly perpendicular to the wall or footing. If it should become necessary to place the building sewer nearer to any wall, foundation or footing, or under any area wall or pier, the building sewer shall be constructed of extra heavy cast iron pipe as for a building drain.
