It shall be a misdemeanor for any person to discharge firearms, bow and arrow, slingshot, or other device capable of propelling an object with sufficient force to cause great bodily harm, within the limits of the city. Provided, however, that this section shall not apply to police officers in the discharge of their duties, or to acts of otherwise lawful self-defense, defense of others, or defense of property.
