9-4-8: INTERCEPTORS:
   A.   Interceptors Required: Grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be provided when, in the opinion of the superintendent of the water and sewer department, they are necessary for the proper handling of liquid wastes containing grease in excessive amounts, or any flammable wastes, sand, or other ingredients harmful to the sewer system; except, that such interceptors shall not be required for private living quarters, dwelling units, or residences. All interceptors shall be of a type and capacity approved by the superintendent, and shall be located as to be readily and easily accessible for cleaning and inspection.
   B.   Materials For Interceptors; Maintenance: All grease, oil, and sand interceptors shall be constructed of impervious materials capable of withstanding abrupt and extreme changes in temperature. They shall be of substantial construction materials as approved by the superintendent, with a basic minimum size requirement of one thousand (1,000) gallons with an inside diameter of seventy two inches (72") and a base pad diameter of ninety six inches (96"). A larger size interceptor may be required depending upon the specific proposed use or application. They are to be waterproof and gastight with a bolt down frame and an easily removable and secure cover with a cast iron minimum opening of twenty one inches (21"), Neenah R-1916D or equivalent. Prior to operation, the interceptor shall be inspected by the superintendent, or his designated representative. Where installed, all grease, oil and sand interceptors shall be maintained by the owner at the owner's expense, in continuous and efficient operation at all times.
