8-2-6: MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
   A.   Concrete Street Openings:
      1.   Concrete shall be sawed a minimum of three inches (3") deep before concrete removal in an area as follows:
         a.   The minimum width of the section removed shall be four feet (4'). For cuts not involving the curb or just curb sections, the cut shall start at the edge of the curb two feet (2') from the outside face and extend to the nearest joint or centerline of the road, for a road with no longitudinal joints.
         b.   For cuts involving just the curb, curb sections shall be removed in lengths of eight feet (8') or from joint to joint, whichever is smaller.
         c.   For cuts extending beyond the centerline, the full section between curbs, and an eight foot (8') wide minimum, shall be removed and replaced.
      2.   Replacement of excavation shall consist of full depth sand or rock backfill, to be jetted or mechanically tamped and approved by the street department prior to replacing concrete.
      3.   Fresh concrete shall be pinned to existing concrete by boring no. 4 reinforcing bars at twelve inch (12") maximum centers at all sides of contact. Rebar shall be bored a minimum of four inches (4") into existing concrete and shall be embedded twelve inches (12") minimum into fresh concrete.
      4.   In the event of full width replacements, no. 4 reinforcing at twelve inch (12") minimum spacing shall be placed across the trench and parallel with the centerline of the road and extend the full width of the removed section.
   B.   Other Than Concrete Streets: Street openings on streets other than concrete are to be sawed, chopped or axed out, not over thirty inches (30") wide, unless permission is given. (1996 Code § 25-26)
