6-1-8: OFFICIAL TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES:
   A.   The mayor shall place and maintain, or cause to be placed and maintained, traffic control devices when and as required under the traffic ordinances of the city to make effective the provisions of this title, and may place and maintain such additional traffic control devices as may be directed by the city council to regulate traffic under the traffic ordinances of the city or under state law, or to guide or warn traffic.
   B.   In this connection as and for the purpose of civil defense, the city council may direct the mayor to place, or cause to be placed, such civil defense signs as may be authorized by the federal or state government or which the city council, in the best interest of the health and safety of the citizens of the city, deem necessary.
