6-1-6: ACCIDENTS:
   A.   Duty To Stop: The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to or death or damage to any vehicle or property shall immediately stop such vehicle at the scene of such accident or as close thereto as possible; shall then forthwith return to, and in every event shall remain at, the scene of the accident until he has fulfilled the requirements of this section. Every stop shall be made without obstructing traffic more than is necessary. (1985 Code ch. 20 § 17-2)
   B.   Giving Information And Aid: The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury to or death of any person or damage to any vehicle which is driven or attended by any person shall give his name, address and the registration number of the vehicle he is driving, and shall, upon request and if available, exhibit his operator's or chauffeur's license to the person struck, or the driver or occupant of or person attending any vehicle collided with, and shall render to any person injured in such accident reasonable assistance, including the carrying or making arrangements for the carrying of such person to a physician, surgeon, or hospital for medical or surgical treatment, if it is apparent that such treatment is necessary or if such carrying is requested by the injured person.    C.   Reports:
      1.   The driver of any vehicle involved in any accident shall, within forty eight (48) hours, report such accident to the police dispatcher at the police department and make a full report upon the forms to be provided by the police department; provided, further, that in any accident where death or personal injury is involved, the driver or drivers of the vehicles shall immediately report the same to the police and shall in all cases remain at the scene of the accident until police officers have arrived.       2.   The driver of a vehicle which is in any manner involved in an accident resulting in bodily injury to or death of any person or in which it is apparent that damage to one vehicle or other property is in excess of three hundred dollars ($300.00) shall, as soon as practicable, report such accident to a police officer or to the police department. Making out a written report of the accident in the office of the police department as soon as practicable after the accident, to be forwarded to the department of public safety of the state in accordance with law, shall also be deemed compliance with this subsection.
