(A) It shall hereafter be the duty of the Chicago, Milwaukee, and St. Paul Railroad Company, or any other railroad company which may now or hereafter run or operate its railroad through said city, to keep and maintain an electric light at every point where the track or tracks of said railroad company upon or over which it runs any trains, engines, or cars during the nighttime, crosses or intersects at grade any public street within the limits of said city; such electric light shall be of 100 candle-power or more to light the crossings of such railroad where such lights are placed and maintained in such a manner as to enable citizens and other persons traveling or passing over such crossings to see the track and protect themselves from the danger of running trains on such railroad. Provided, such lights shall not be required to exceed in power those in general use for lighting the streets of said city.
(B) All such lights shall be lighted each night during the same hours that the lights used for the lighting of said city shall be lighted or burning, but it shall not be necessary for said railroad company or companies to cause said lights to be lighted during any such hours as the regular street lights of said city are not lighted.
