(A) There is hereby established a city government department or subdivision to be commonly known as the “Police Department for the City of Irvine, Kentucky.”
(B) The Department shall be subject to the oversight of the office of the Mayor who shall administer same pursuant to existing laws of the United States, the state and the city.
(C) The Police Department shall have as its chief officer a member thereof who shall be known as the Chief of Police and who shall be appointed by the Mayor.
(D) The Police Department shall also have other offices and officers necessary for the efficient administration of its duties and responsibilities.
(E) The Police Department and all of the persons presently employed by the city in that Department or subdivision are and shall continue to be subject to any and all ordinances, policies, directives and the like of the city and the authority of appropriate officials thereof as it has been prior hereto.
