§ 36.180 BEREAVEMENT LEAVE.
   (A)   (1)   All full-time city employees will be eligible for paid bereavement leave in the event of death in the employee’s immediate or extended family.
      (2)   Bereavement leave will be granted on the following basis.
         (a)   An employee will be authorized for up to three days of paid bereavement leave in the event of death in the employee’s immediate family. For the purposes of this division (A)(2)(a), IMMEDIATE FAMILY will mean the employee’s parents, grandparents, spouse, children (including in the case of a miscarriage at any term of pregnancy), grandchildren, brothers and sisters in any case and immediate in-laws.
         (b)   An employee will be authorized for paid bereavement leave for up to one day in the event of death of an extended family member of the employee. For the purposes of this division (A)(2)(b), “extended family member” will be limited to cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
         (c)   An employee may be eligible for additional paid bereavement leave for extenuating circumstances such as for traveling long distances and making family arrangements. In addition, other special relationships may exist where the employee may be eligible for additional bereavement leave. In these instances, the employee should discuss the circumstance or the relationship with the Mayor who will grant or deny such requests considering the workload, the employee’s circumstances and other pertinent factors.
   (B)   Whenever the use of bereavement leave is necessary, the employee will provide advance notice to his or her immediate supervisor, and the employee will submit an Absentee Request Form in accordance with §§ 36.170 through 36.185. When possible, the employee will submit the Absentee Request Form in advance of the leave. Otherwise, the employee will submit the Absentee Request Form immediately upon return to work.
