(A) The city will comply with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 (IRCA), including Form I-9 requirements.
(B) Under IRCA, all employers must complete an Employment Eligibility Verification Form, commonly known as Form I-9, for all current employees and maintain those forms in a separate file for the longer of either:
(1) Three years from the first day of employment; or
(2) One year after the employment ended.
(C) IRCA prohibits employers from:
(1) Knowingly hiring, recruiting or referring (for a fee) noncitizens who are not authorized to work in the United States;
(2) Requiring specific documents to complete Form I-9; and
(3) Retaliating against employees that file a charge or participate in an investigation.
