It shall be unlawful for any person to possess, sell, offer for sale, distribute, administer, dispense, prescribe or give away opium or its common derivatives, heroin, codeine or morphine, or coca leaves, or their common derivatives, cocaine, or cannabis commonly called marijuana; or barbituric acid or any of its salts, or any other derivative, salt, compound, preparation or mixture of the narcotic drugs as aforestated or any other controlled substance as is defined in Act 368 of the Public Acts of Michigan of 1978 (MCL 33.7101 et seq.) as amended, except as may be authorized by this subchapter.
