(A) Every driver of a taxicab, immediately after the termination of any hiring or employment, shall carefully search such taxicab for any property lost or left therein, and any such property, unless sooner claimed or delivered to the owner, must be taken to the police station and deposited with the officer in charge within 24 hours after the finding thereof, and the officer in charge of the station to which such report shall be made shall forward a written notice to the police property officer with brief particulars and description of the properly.
(B) The provisions of this section shall not apply in case a profit corporation or a non-profit corporation composed of members engaged in the taxicab business shall have a regularly established lost- and-found department, in which case such property must be kept subject to the call of the owner for at least 30 days, at the end of which time it shall be disposed of in accordance with law.
