§ 91.08 MAXIMUM NUMBER OF DOGS OR CATS PER HOUSEHOLD.
   (A)   No person shall keep more than a total of three dogs or cats over the age of six months per household in any residential area zone R-1, R-1A, R-2, or R-3.
   (B)   These restrictions mean a total of three animals. For example, there can be two dogs and one cat, or two cats and one dog, but in no event shall the total number exceed three of those animals per household. The only exception, which allows for two additional cats (Felix cattus or Felis domestics) for a total of five animals in the household, is if all of the cats are indoor cats, are spayed or neutered, and are current on all annual shots recommended by the Indiana Veterinary Medical Association. The maximum combinations are five cats, or four cats and one dog, or three cats and two dogs, or two cats and three dogs. No more than three dogs will be allowed.
   (C)   This restriction shall not apply to property which is at least one-third of an acre of land (14,520 square feet); however, any person owning more than three animals shall meet the provisions of division (D) herein.
   (D)   Persons desiring to have more than three animals who meet the regulation set forth in division (C) herein must have a minimum of 1,000 square feet for each additional animal.
