The Fire Chief, or the Chief's designee, may, upon discovering active trenching operations being conducted in violation of Federal, State or local laws or regulations, issue a stop work order requiring the person found in violation to cease all excavation or trenching operations until such laws and regulations are complied with. Such stop work order may require the site to be immediately made safe by the person found in violation prior to that person leaving the site and by such means ordered by the official issuing the stop work order including, but not limited to, filling any such excavation or trench. The official issuing the stop work order shall forward a copy of all stop work orders to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). No person shall fail to obey a stop work order issued pursuant to this section.
