240.03 AUXILIARY UNIT.
   (a)   There is hereby established an Auxiliary Unit within the Police Department.

   (b)   The members of the Auxiliary Unit shall be appointed by and shall serve at the pleasure of the Manager. The Manager shall be responsible for the overall supervision of the Auxiliary Unit. The Chief of Police shall be the commanding officer of the Auxiliary Unit and shall be responsible for recruiting, training, equipping and directing the activities of the Auxiliary Unit.

   (c)   The Auxiliary Unit shall not consist of more than twelve members.
   (d)   The Municipality shall supply uniforms and pay the cost of Workers' Compensation and the cost of police professional liability insurance.
   (e)   Members of the Auxiliary Unit are prohibited from carrying firearms or weapons.
   (f)   Each member of the Auxiliary Unit shall be at least nineteen years of age at the time of appointment and, subsequent to such appointment, shall abide by the rules and regulations promulgated by the Chief of Police.
   (g)   Members of the Auxiliary Unit shall not be eligible to be members of the Public Employees Retirement System or the Police and Firemen's Disability and Pension Fund.
