8-2-8: CHANGES IN STREET NAMES:
   A.   Application For Change: Where necessary or desirable, any person may make application to the city to change a street name. The city may also initiate a street name change at its sole discretion for reasons of duplication, similar pronunciation or spelling or for other reasons relating to public safety or convenience.
   B.   Changes Due To Duplication, Similar Pronunciation Or Spelling: In the case of street name changes necessitated due to duplication, similar pronunciation or spelling, the city shall determine the street name to be changed and select the new name to be used. The city shall take into consideration the number of existing addresses on the streets in question, the length of time each street has used the name in question, the date of the original dedication of said street(s), each street's compliance with this chapter and any other factor pertinent to resolving the similar pronunciation or spelling. No street name(s) may be changed until the proposed names have been checked against the official street name map and list and approved by the council.
   C.   Public Hearing: The city shall hold at least one public hearing on this matter. All property owners and residents having frontage on the affected street shall be notified by mail under the following procedures:
      1.   The applicant shall submit a list of addresses of all dwellings located on the affected street to the city.
      2.   The city shall mail notification to all affected residents and property owners and post on location.
      3.   Failure of the city to mail notice to all residents and property owners in no way shall affect the validity of such procedures.
   D.   Final Decision: All proposed changes to street names will consider inconvenience to residents and property owners in the area. All residents and property owners shall be mailed notification of the city's final decision. (Ord. 218, 8-8-2007)
