The side yard regulations contained in Chapters 17.20 and 17.24 shall not apply to the extension of any existing residence, either into the front yard or into the back yard, as long as such extension is a continuation of the side of the existing structure. The extension permitted by this section shall not reduce the side yard width as it exists prior to the extension.
This section shall not change the front yard, rear yard, or building coverage requirements, or any other requirements in the R-1 and R-2 residential districts.
