The attorney shall receive such compensation as may be decided from time to time by the city council. In addition to the yearly salary provided as compensation, the city attorney shall be specially compensated for defending any and all lawsuits brought against the city or its officers or agencies; suits brought on behalf of the city other than for the enforcement of city ordinances; special assessment and condemnation proceedings, and annexations.
