The two captains shall be appointed by the mayor and/or ambulance committee, subject to confirmation by the city council. Each shall hold office for one year and until his or her successor has been duly appointed, except that he or she may be removed at any time by the mayor or ambulance committee with approval of the city council. Ambulance attendants shall be appointed by the mayor with recommendation from the ambulance committee and approval of the city council. The mayor shall receive, but not be bound by, the advice of the members of the ambulance service on appointments through the ambulance committee. Ambulance attendants shall continue as members of the service during good behavior, except they may be removed by majority vote of the city council.
