A. Departments Combined: The waterworks system and the sewerage system in the village shall be maintained and operated together as a combined waterworks and sewerage system, and hereinafter in this section, where the term department or water department is used, it shall be considered to mean the combined water and sewer department, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise. The combined water and sewer department shall be under the direction of the superintendent of public works and water.
B. Jurisdiction: The water department, under the direction of the superintendent and such other officers and employees as may be from time to time lawfully appointed, shall have the supervision, management and control, subject to the president and board of trustees, of the maintenance, enlargement and operation of the combined waterworks and sewerage system owned and controlled by the village, the procuring and selling of water, and all matters and things connected with the operation, maintenance and extension of said combined waterworks and sewerage system, and preserving the property belonging thereto.
C. Certified Licensed Operator: The president is authorized to employ a certified licensed operator to conduct and supervise the operation of the water department. He may seek help from and employ persons employed by other municipalities on a part time or full time basis.
D. Compensation: The superintendent and other officers and employees of the department shall receive as compensation for their services amounts to be fixed by the board of trustees from time to time or as provided by the annual appropriation ordinance. (1985 Code § 7-1-2)
