1-5-4: ABSENCE FROM OFFICE:
   A.   President Pro Tempore: During a temporary absence of the president from the village or if he is unable to act, the board of trustees shall elect one of its members to act as president pro tempore during such absence or disability who shall possess the powers of the president. Upon the president's return to the village or recovery from the disability, the said president pro tempore shall cease to act.
   B.   Chair Of Meetings: If the president shall be temporarily absent from a meeting but not absent from the village or disabled, the board may appoint one of its own members to act as chair for the meeting who shall only act for the purpose of conducting the meeting. He shall be called "chair of the meeting". (1985 Code § 1-5-4; amd. 2016 Code)
   C.   Emergency Interim Successors:
      1.   Designated; Authority:
         a.   In the event that the village president is unavailable, the powers of office shall be discharged by his designated emergency interim successors in the following order: (Ord. 05-07, 2-14-2005; amd. 2016 Code)
   Senior trustee;
   Next senior trustee; and
   Next senior trustee.
         b.   The emergency interim successor shall exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office of village president until such time as a vacancy which may exist shall be filled in accordance with the constitution or statutes, or until the officer, or his deputy or a preceding emergency interim successor, again becomes available to exercise the power and discharge the duties of his office.
      2.   Formalities Of Taking Office: At the time of their designation, emergency interim successors shall take such oath as may be required for them to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office to which they may succeed. Notwithstanding any other provision of law, no person, as a prerequisite to the exercise of the powers of discharge of the duties of an office to which he succeeds, shall be required to comply with any other provision of law relative to taking office.
      3.   Authority During Disasters: Officials authorized to act as village president pursuant to this subsection C and emergency interim successors are empowered to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of village president as herein authorized during a disaster within the village.
      4.   Removal Of Designees: Until such time as the persons designated as emergency interim successors are authorized to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office of president in accordance with this subsection C, such persons shall serve in their designated capacities at the pleasure of the village and may be removed or replaced by the village at any time, with or without cause.
