8-1-4: FIRE CHIEF; POWERS AND DUTIES:
The fire chief shall be in command of the fire department and shall be subject to the supervision of the village manager. The fire chief shall be responsible for the daily operation and routine management of the fire department. The fire chief shall be responsible for the performance by the fire department of all its functions, and all members of the fire department shall serve subject to the orders of the fire chief. The specific powers and duties of the fire chief shall include, but not be limited to, the following:
   A.   Assigning duties to members of the fire department;
   B.   Serving as custodian of and maintaining in good condition all property and equipment belonging to the fire department;
   C.   Promulgating departmental rules and regulations in accordance with standard village procedures necessary to properly carry out the functions of the fire department; provided, however, that such rules and regulations shall not take effect unless approved by the village manager;
   D.   Keeping or causing to be kept a record of all fires and of any other emergency assistance rendered by the fire department, including the names of firefighters in attendance;
   E.   Preparing a record of the expenses of the fire department;
   F.   Preparing a record of all meetings of the fire department;
   G.   Entering the premises on which a fire has occurred, when necessary, to investigate and determine the cause, origin, and circumstances of such fire; and
   H.   Appointing the deputy fire chief. (Ord. O2004-49, 10-5-2004)
