5-2-7: EMERGENCY INTERIM SUCCESSION:
   A.   For the purposes of this section, the term "unavailable" means either that a vacancy in the office exists or that the lawful incumbent of the office is absent or otherwise unable to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office.
   B.   In the event the village president is unavailable to exercise the powers and duties under this chapter, the powers of the office of village president shall be exercised and duties shall be discharged by the designated emergency interim successors in the following order:
      1.   President pro tem, if a president pro tem has been chosen pursuant to section 1-5-4 of this code.
      2.   Village board members by seniority based on the number of consecutive years in office. In the event two (2) or more village board members have equivalent seniority, the village board member in such group who received the highest number of votes for the current office at the most recent election at which such village board member participated. The village board member who is designated the emergency interim successor pursuant to this subsection shall have the title "president pro tem".
   C.   The emergency interim successor shall exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office of village president under this chapter until such time as a vacancy which may exist shall be filled or until the officer of a preceding emergency interim successor again becomes available to exercise the powers and discharge the duties of the office of village president.
