5-1-4-1: DEPUTY CHIEF:
There is hereby created two (2) positions of deputy chief of police. Deputy chiefs may be appointed by the chief of police from time to time. There shall be no more than two (2) deputy chiefs at any time. A deputy chief may be appointed from any rank of sworn, full time officers of the police department, provided that no police officer shall be appointed as a deputy chief unless that officer has at least five (5) years of full time service as a police officer in the Hinsdale police department. The position of deputy chief shall be an exempt rank immediately below that of the chief of police. Deputy chiefs shall serve at the will and discretion of the chief of police. If a deputy chief is removed from that position, then that officer shall revert to the rank held by that officer immediately prior to appointment to the position of deputy chief. (Ord.
