There is hereby created the office of police chief. The police chief shall be appointed by the village president and confirmed by the board of trustees upon the recommendation of the village manager. The police chief shall serve until such time as he or she resigns or is removed or discharged from office by the village manager; provided, however, that the village manager shall provide to the board of trustees a statement of reasons for removal or discharge, and provided further that no such removal or discharge shall become effective unless confirmed by a majority vote of the village president and board of trustees.
