For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
ORGANIZATION, CLUB. An affiliated group of individuals, including unincorporated associations and not-for-profit entities. Examples: downtown merchants; Fire Department; American Legion; Parent-Teacher Organization; Boy and Girl Scouts.
PEDDLER. A business, organization, club or individual who goes from house to house, from place to place, or from street to street selling goods, wares or merchandise, or services for any purpose whatsoever, including nonprofit fundraisers. Examples: candy; cookies; housewares; raffle tickets; donations for the sick.
SOLICITATION. The act of a business, organization, club or individual to sell, offer for sale, purchase, offer to purchase or exchange goods for services whether for monetary consideration or as a donation.
SOLICITOR. A business, organization, club or individual who goes from house to house, from place to place or from street to street soliciting or taking orders for the sale of goods, wares or merchandise, or for the performance of services in the future.
TRANSIENT MERCHANT. Any person who engages in a temporary business of selling, buying and/or delivering goods, wares and/or merchandise within the town and who, in furtherance of such purpose leases, uses or occupies any building, structure, motor vehicle, trailer, tent, railroad boxcar, hotel room or other place within the town for the exhibition and sale or purchase of such goods, wares and/or merchandise.
