A. Definition: A "Stop" sign is a sign placed at street and highway intersections by authority of the City Council, the Board of County Commissioners or the State Commissioner of Transportation with the word "Stop" printed or stamped thereon, indicating that all persons approaching such streets or highways shall stop before crossing or entering thereon in any vehicle.
B. Sign Placement: The Street Superintendent and the Street Committee of the City Council are hereby authorized to place such stop signs at all intersections where, in the opinion of the Street Superintendent or of the Street Committee, the placing of such sign is desirable and necessary.
C. Stopping Where Designated: All persons approaching intersections of any streets or highways where stop signs have been placed shall come to a complete stop before crossing such intersection, or entering upon any street so marked and designated.
D. Penalty: Any person violating any provision hereof shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, shall be subject to penalty as provided in Section 1-4-1 of this Code. (Ord. 79, 6-15-1937; 1996 Code)
