450.01   WEIGHT LIMITS.
   (a)   It shall be unlawful to operate any vehicle on the streets within the City of Hart in violation of the weight and other restrictions of Section 722 of Act 300 of the Public Acts of 1949, as amended (M.C.L.A. 257.722), subject to the limitations set forth in subsection (b) hereof.
   (b)   All vehicles having a gross weight of more than 16,800 pounds are required to use the following designated City truck routes to the closest point of destination within the City:
      (1)   State Street, from the south City limits to the north City limits.
      (2)   West Main Street, from the west City limits to State Street.
      (3)   East Main Street, from State Street to the east City limits.
      (4)   Griswold Street, from Russell to Wood Streets.
      (5)   Wood Street, from Griswold to State Streets.
   (c)   Any police officer or any other duly authorized agent of the City Council, having reason to believe that the weight of a vehicle and load is unlawful, may require the driver to stop and submit to a weighing of the same and may require that such vehicle be driven to the nearest commercial weighing scale to determine whether such vehicle is loaded in conformity with the provisions of this section.
   (d)   Whenever the police officer or agent of the City Council, upon weighing a vehicle and load, determines that the weight is unlawful, the officer or agent may require the driver to stop the vehicle in a suitable place and remain standing until such portion of the load is shifted or removed as may be necessary to reduce the gross axle load weight of such vehicle to the limit provided by this section. All material so unloaded shall be cared for by the owner or operator of such vehicle at the risk of such owner or operator.

   (e)   The Chief of Police is hereby authorized to post signs at the entrances to the City of Hart, setting forth the weight restrictions established by this section.
   (f)   This section shall not apply to vehicles owned and/or operated by the City.
