§ 153.086 WATER SUPPLY.
   (A)   General requirements. Extensions of the water supply system shall when available, be designed so as to provide water service to each lot. The applicant shall install water facilities in a manner prescribed by the city’s construction standards and specifications. All plans shall be designed and approved in accordance with the rules, regulations, and standards of the city, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and Department of Health, and other appropriate agencies.
   (B)   Mandatory connection to public water system. If public water is accessible or is being placed in a street or alley abutting the subdivision, the owner of the property shall be required to connect each lot to the system.
   (C)   Multi-family residential and nonresidential uses. The standards applied to the sanitary sewer in § 153.085(C) shall apply to the water systems in proposed multi-family residential and nonresidential subdivisions.
   (D)   Single-family and two-family residential uses. The standards applied to the sanitary sewer in § 153.085(D) shall apply to the water systems in proposed single-family and two-family residential subdivisions.
   (E)   Design standards.
      (1)   Standards. Public water mains shall be designed in conformance with the city’s design standards and subject to the specifications of state authorities.
      (2)   Water mains. All water mains shall be at least six inches in diameter.
      (3)   Fire hydrants. Fire hydrants shall be located no more than 1,000 feet apart and within 500 feet of any structure and shall be approved by the applicable fire protection unit, where required. To eliminate future street openings, all underground utilities for fire hydrants, together with the fire hydrants themselves, and all other supply improvements shall be installed before any final paving of a street shown on the subdivision plat.
