§ 70.40 AUTHORITY OF POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT OFFICIALS.
   (A)   It shall be the duty of the officers of the Police Department or such officers as are assigned by the Chief of Police to enforce all street traffic laws of this city and all of the state vehicle laws.
   (B)   Officers of the Police Department or such officers as are assigned by the Chief of Police are hereby authorized to direct all traffic by voice, hand, or signal in conformance with traffic laws, provided that, in the event of a fire or other emergency or to expedite traffic or to safeguard pedestrians, officers of the Police Department may direct traffic as condi- tions may require notwithstanding the provisions of the traffic laws.
   (C)   Officers of the Fire Department, when at the scene of a fire, may direct or assist the police in directing traffic thereat or in the immediate vicinity.
   (D)   The Police Chief or his/her designee shall evaluate the placement of all traffic-control signage prior to installation and such installation must be in compliance with the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, as amended. Each traffic-control sign or device that is approved by the Police Chief or his/her designee shall be added to the established sign inventory, including the following information: 1) type of sign; 2) roadway on which the sign is located; 3) intersecting roadway; 4) travel direction; 5) date of approval; and 6) date of installation.
