(A) Specific definitions. For the purpose of this transportation code, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates or requires a different meaning.
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE. Every vehicle that is primarily engaged in the transportation of cargo, passengers, or equipment for consideration.
DESIGNATED OFFICIAL. The Chief of Police, or in the absence of the Chief of Police, the Operation Manager or designated representative.
FREIGHT CURB LOADING ZONE. A space adjacent to a curb which is reserved exclusively or primarily for the use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of materials, freight, equipment, or other non-passenger cargo.
PASSENGER CURB LOADING ZONE. A space adjacent to a curb which is reserved exclusively or primarily for the use of vehicles during the loading or unloading of passengers.
POLICE CHIEF. The City Police Department's highest ranking police officer who is appointed by the City Manager or City Council or his/her designee.
POLICE OFFICER. Every peace officer employed by the City Police Department or any other person authorized by law to direct or regulate traffic, or to issue citations or make arrests for violations of traffic regulations.
TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT UNIT. The Traffic Management Unit of the City Police Department, provided that in the event that no traffic management unit has been established by the Department, then the term shall mean the City Police Department.
(B) Time. All references to a specified hour shall be deemed to refer to Central/Standard time, or daylight savings time, whichever may at that time be in general use throughout the city.
(C) Whenever any words or phrases used in this transportation code are not defined in this section, but are defined in current statutes promulgated by the Texas Legislature regulating traffic or the operation of vehicles, such definitions shall apply to the words and phrases used herein, except when the context requires otherwise.
(D) Whenever any words or phrases used in this transportation code are not defined in this section or by other legislation as described in division (C) above, such words or phrases shall have the meanings commonly ascribed to them.
