The salaries of the Chief of Police, regular patrolmen and such additional regular patrolmen as the Mayor and Common Council shall deem it advisable to appoint shall be paid in equal semimonthly installments. The hours during which said members of the Police Department shall be on duty and the compensation to them for work rendered by members of the Police Department for overtime shall be regulated by the Mayor and Common Council under the rules and regulations of said Department.
