§ 113.41 WHEN PERMITTED.
   (A)   No garage sale shall be allowed from the same parcel of residential property located in the city more than one time a year. The owner of the property may petition the Board of Works for a permit to conduct a garage sale which will be good for two consecutive days. The Board of Works may, in its discretion grant permits for additional sales, or approve events which include a garage sale.
   (B)   Persons wishing to have a garage sale must first obtain a permit from the Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety prior to conducting the sale. Permits will be given at the regularly scheduled meeting of that body on Thursdays and may be obtained by correspondence or in person at the meeting. The Board of Works will issue a written permit which is to be in the possession of the person conducting the garage sale if requested by police and/or code enforcement.
   (C)   Notices for garage and yard sales may not be posted on city property, such as light poles, street signs, or utility poles. Illegally placed signs may be removed and disposed of by the city.
   (D)   Violations of this provision may be enforced by the Inspections Department and/or Police Department and each day constitutes a continuing offense which may be abated by any lawful meas by the city.
