(A) In order to be eligible for promotion, police officers shall have completed the following number of years of continuous active service for certain ranks:
(1) Sergeant: 6 years.
(2) Lieutenant: 8 years.
(3) Captain: 10 years.
(4) Assistant Chief: 12 years.
(B) This section shall not apply to the motor pool.
