Such signal shall be of standard make and pattern, such as is in common and ordinary use for like purposes by railroad corporations throughout the state and, when so installed, shall be operated and maintained so as to give, throughout 24 hours in each and every day, reasonable warning of the approach of all engines or cars or trains upon all railroad tracks on the right-of-way of such railroad company within a distance of 1,000 feet on each side of said crossing. Said signal shall be so operated and maintained as to be constantly sounded while any engine, car, or train is moving within 1,000 feet distance of said crossings.
