(A) The owner of any dog, cat, or other animal which bites any human being shall notify a city animal control officer, and the City Police Department, within 24 hours, shall keep such dog, cat, or other animal locked up in an enclosure for a period of ten days following the time the dog, cat, or other animal has bitten a person and shall have the dog, cat, or other animal examined by a licensed veterinarian at the beginning and end of the ten-day period. The expense of the examination and lock up of said animal is the owner’s responsibility.
(B) When a person has been bitten by a police dog, the police dog may continue to perform its duties for the peace officer or law enforcement agency, and any period of observation of the police dog may be under the supervision of a peace officer. The supervision shall consist of the dog being locked in a kennel, performing its official duties in a police vehicle, or remaining under the constant supervision of its police handler.
