(A) Pipe requirements. In all cases, the drain pipe herein alluded to, extending from the street to the building or, if not taken to the building, then to any other place where it is intended to drain, must consist of sound-vitrified sewer pipe of not less than four inches in diameter and be subject to the approval of the Committee on Public Sewers and Water Works.

(B) Inside of pipe.
(1) The inside of every drain pipe laid must be left smooth and clean from cement or dirt throughout the entire length, and a wad or sack filled with material so as to completely fill the pipe shall be pulled through each pipe after it has been laid to remove all loose cement.
(2) All openings from downspouts must terminate in socket ends, and all downspouts must run to an intercepting trap before entering the sewer, the said trap to be accessible at all times for cleaning purposes. All downspouts under the ground or inside the building shall consist of standard cast iron soil pipe.

(C) Vent pipes - material. All soil, waste, or vent pipes shall be of cast iron or galvanized wrought iron, lead, or brass; no brick, earthenware, or sheet metal shall be used in any part of the plumbing or drainage system or for ventilation pipes within any building, and no chimney flues shall be used for ventilating on any new work or alteration. All cast iron pipes shall be of uniform thickness, free from holes, or any defects and shall be no lighter than what is known as extra heavy weight pipe. Where wrought iron pipes are used for waste or drainage, they shall be installed by what is known to the trade as the “Durham System.”

(D) Vent pipes for bathrooms.
(1) The main waste and vent pipe for a closet or for bathroom fixtures shall be no less than four-inch cast iron soil pipe; for two fixtures, excepting a closet or bath, a two-inch vent pipe may be used. All vent pipes shall be carried through the roof and shall be no less than four inches in diameter at the roof.
(2) All fixtures are to be continuous waste and vent, using “P” traps on all fixtures, wherever possible. Each sink shall have no less than a one and one-half-inch pipe. Each lavatory shall have no less than one and one quarter-inch pipe. Each and every trap shall be vented with a vent pipe the same size as the trap, excepting drain traps, centrifugal traps, and trapped cellar drains and floor drains, and all traps shall be placed within two feet of the fixtures, all vent pipes from traps to be of galvanized wrought iron pipe, lead, brass, or cast iron soil pipe.
(3) Bathtubs shall have not less than four-inch by eight-inch drum trap with a four-inch cover, resting on top of floor. All hotels, restaurants, boarding houses, meat markets, and the like are to be provided with grease traps.
