§ 36.033 EMPLOYMENT CATEGORIES.
   (A)   It is the intent of the city to clarify the definitions of employment classifications so that employees understand their employment status and benefit eligibility. Any changes in employment classification shall be conveyed in writing. No change in employment classification is to be construed or inferred without written notification from the hiring authority. Each employee is assigned to one of the following employment categories:
      (1)   “REGULAR FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES” are those who are not in a part-time, temporary or probationary status and who arc designated in writing as full-time and regularly scheduled to work the city’s full-time schedule, normally 35 to 40 hours per work week. Generally, they are eligible for the employer’s benefit package, subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations of each benefit program.
      (2)   “AFFORDABLE CARE ACT FULL-TIME EMPLOYEES” are those who are not in a part-time, regular full-time, or temporary or seasonal status and who are designated in writing as Affordable Care Act full-time and regularly scheduled to work 30 or more hours per work week. These employees are eligible for legally mandated benefits such as worker’s compensation, social security benefits, and certain city benefits subject to the terms, conditions, and limitations of each benefit program.
      (3)   “PART-TIME EMPLOYEES” are those who are not assigned to a full-time, temporary or seasonal status and who are typically scheduled to work less than the full-time schedule. Although, part-time employees may be required to work additional hours based on staffing and business needs of the city. While they do receive all legally mandated benefits (such as worker’s compensation and social security benefits), they are ineligible for all of the city’s other benefit programs.
      (4)   “TEMPORARY OR SEASONAL EMPLOYEES” are those who are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the work force, or to assist in the completion of a specific project. Employment assignments in this category are of a limited duration. While temporary employees receive all legally-mandated benefits (such as worker’s compensation insurance and social security), they are ineligible for all of the city’s other benefit programs.
   (B)   Employment beyond any initially stated period or in excess of initially projected work hours does not in any way imply a change in employment status. Full-time, part-time, temporary and seasonal employees retain that status unless and until notified of a change.
