9-3-1: SPEED LIMITS DESIGNATED:
Except as otherwise posted and except in school zones, the speed limit in all areas of the city shall be twenty five (25) miles per hour.
   A.   City streets around or approaching any school within this city are hereby declared to require a reduced speed of fifteen (15) miles per hour for vehicular traffic. Upon the recommendation in writing to the city council, by the chief of police or his designee, such city council reserves the right to adopt, by ordinance, areas around such school wherein the speed limit shall be fifteen (15) miles per hour. Before the fifteen (15) mile per hour school zone speed limit shall be enforced, the city shall post appropriate signs in accordance with Idaho Code 49-208 within the school zone area, indicating such reduced speed as required.
The speed limits aforementioned shall be enforced between the hours of seven o'clock (7:00) A.M. and five o'clock (5:00) P.M. during days that the various schools are in session.
   B.   The residents of the city may petition the city council in writing for a reduction in speed limit on specified streets within the city where such residents feel a particular hazard exists. The city council may at the next regularly scheduled meeting direct a traffic survey and thereafter determine whether the speed shall be reduced by appropriate ordinance.
   C.   Based upon traffic surveys having been earlier prepared by the city police and having been adopted by the city council, the following areas within the city are hereby declared to be fifteen (15) mile per hour zones:
      1.   North Myrtle Street and all portions thereof lying north of Main Street in the city.
      2.   That area on three (3) sides of Pioneer park as follows: Florence Street from the south side of Main Street to fifty feet (50') south of the south side of the intersection of West South 1st and Florence Streets; Park Street from the south side of Main Street to a point fifty feet (50') south of the intersection of Park Street and West South 1st Street; and, West South 1st Street between Florence Street and Park Street.
      3.   The Jaycee park, defined as follows: All streets surrounding the said park and including the intersections adjacent thereto which streets include Cunningham Street on the north, West North 7th on the south, College Street on the east, and Junction Street on the west. (Ord. 832, 9-4-2007)
