For the purpose of this chapter, the following words shall be deemed to have the indicated meanings:
(a) “Street opening” means a transverse cut in the surface of any street, sidewalk, alley or public way.
(b) “Trench” means a longitudinal cut in the surface of any street, sidewalk, alley or public way.
