10-12-3: DEFINITIONS:
For the purpose of this chapter, certain terms are defined as follows:
ACCESSIBLE OPENING: Any opening in the exterior of a building larger than eight inches by twelve inches (8" x 12") (e.g., door, window, transom, vent duct, skylight, etc.), that is within either:
   A.   Eighteen feet (18') from the ground or the roof of an adjoining structure; or
   B.   Fourteen feet (14') from, directly or diagonally, opposite windows, fire escapes or ledges.
COMBINATION DEAD LATCH AND DEAD BOLT: A device combining a dead latch and a dead bolt operable by knobs from inside and by a key from outside.
COMMERCIAL BUILDING: Any building or structure which is located in a commercial zoning district which is used for commercial purposes.
CYLINDER GUARD: A hardened steel ring or plate surrounding the otherwise exposed portion of a cylinder lock designed to prevent cutting, prying, pulling or wrenching with common tools.
DEAD BOLT: A bolt which has no automatic spring action and which is operated by a key, thumb turn or lever and is positively held fast in the protected position.
DOUBLE CYLINDER DEAD BOLT: A dead bolt lock actuated by a key from the inside and outside.
LOUVERS: A series of removable, fixed, slated or movable slats. ("Glass louvers" is descriptive of jalousies. Glass, wood or metal jalousies are considered to be louvers. Awning windows having sections more than 12 inches in height are not considered to be louvers.)

SINGLE CYLINDER DEAD BOLT: A dead bolt activated from the outside by a key and from the inside by a knob, thumb turn, lever or similar actuator.
STRIKE: A stationary metal plate designed to momentarily depress a moving latch for final secure engagement requiring a separate operation for disengagement. (1978 Code § 4-10-11)
