The 2006 international residential code adopted by section 10-3-1 of this chapter is hereby amended as follows:
Section R101.1 is amended to read as follows:
R101.1 Title. These provisions shall be known as the residential code for one and two-family dwellings of the village of Glendale Heights, and shall be cited as such and will be referred to herein as "this code".
Section R103 DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING SAFETY. Delete this section in its entirety.
Section R104 is amended as follows:
Wherever a reference to "building official" is made within section R104 or anywhere else in this code, it shall mean director of community development or his designee.
Section R107.3 is amended by amending the last sentence to read as follows:
The part covered by the temporary certificate shall comply with the requirements specified for temporary lighting, heat or power in the 2008 edition of the national electrical code.

Section R113.4 is amended to read as follows:
R113.4 Violation Penalties. Any person who violates a provision of this code or fails to comply with any of the requirements thereof, shall be penalized with a fine of not less than $50.00 or more than $1,000.00. Each day a violation continues to exist shall constitute a separate offense.

Section R309.1 Opening Protection is amended by adding the following sentence to read as follows:
Doors shall be self-closing.
Section R309.3.1 is added to read as follows:
R309.3.1 Attached Garages. Openings between attached garages and the principal building shall have doorsills raised a minimum of four (4) inches.

RODENT PROOFING
Section R325.1 is added to read as follows:
R325.1 Rodent Proofing. Building additions, decks, patio enclosures, or any structure added to the existing foundation not provided with a continuous foundation shall be provided with protection against rodents at grade by either an apron in accordance with section R325.2 or a floor slab in accordance with section R325.3.
Section R325.2 is added to read as follows:
R325.2 Apron. Where an apron is provided, the apron shall not be less than eight (8) inches above, nor less than twenty-four (24) inches below, grade. The apron shall not terminate below the lower edge of the siding material. The apron shall be constructed of an approved non- decayable, water-resistant rat-proofing material of required strength and shall be installed around the entire perimeter of the building. Where constructed of masonry or concrete materials, the apron shall not be less than four (4) inches in thickness.
Section R325.3 is added to read as follows:
R325.3 Grade Floors. Where continuous concrete grade floor slabs are provided, open spaces shall not be left between the slab and walls, and openings in the slab shall be protected.

R326.1 General. Patio enclosures and any other type(s) of roofed structures, greater than one hundred (100) square feet, added to an existing structure shall be required to have a minimum of an eight (8) inch full perimeter bell trench foundation. Such trench shall be formed a minimum of six (6) inches above grade and extend forty-two (42) inches below grade to the accepted depth of the frost line.

R-3 RESIDENTIAL FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEM
Section R328.1 is added to read as follows:
R328.1 General. Provide an approved residential fire suppression system for single family dwellings in excess of 3,000 square feet. Provide an approved fire suppression system for townhomes of two (2) or more combined units.
Exception: Townhomes are exempt from suppression requirement when built to type I or II construction criteria.
Section R402.1 Wood Foundations. Delete this section in its entirety.
Section R402.1.1 Fasteners. Delete this section in its entirety.
Section R402.1.2 Wood Treatment. Delete this section in its entirety.
Section R504 Pressure Preservatively Treated-Wood Floors (On Ground). Delete this section in its entirety.

Section AJ401.2 is added to read as follows:
AJ401.2 Door And Window Dimensions. Minor reductions in the clear opening dimensions of replacement doors and windows that result from the use of different materials shall be allowed, whether or not they are permitted by this code. This reduction is limited to a maximum of two (2) inches in either direction, provided that it is the only option available to the homeowner.

Section G2414.5.3 Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing. Delete this section in its entirety.
Chapters 25 - 32, inclusive, shall be deleted in their entirety. All plumbing shall comply with the more restrictive of the 2004 edition of the Illinois plumbing code and the 2006 edition of the international plumbing code.
Chapters 33 - 39, inclusive, shall be deleted in their entirety. All electrical work, equipment, and installations shall comply with the 2008 edition of the national electrical code.
Chapter 43 Referenced Standards is amended by inserting 2008 edition of the national electrical code in place of ICC electrical code wherever it may appear and by inserting the more restrictive of the 2004 edition of the Illinois plumbing code and the 2006 edition of the international plumbing code.
