A. Position Created; Appointment; Qualifications; Compensation: There is hereby created the position of deputy chief of police. The deputy chief of police shall be appointed by and shall serve at the discretion of the chief of police. The deputy chief of police shall have been a sworn police officer of the department prior to his appointment as deputy chief of police. He shall receive such compensation as shall be fixed by the president and board of trustees. (1978 Code § 10-1-14-1)
B. Powers And Duties: The deputy chief of police shall serve at the discretion of the chief of police and shall provide those services as required by the chief of police. In the event the chief of police is not able to perform his duties, the deputy chief of police shall have the same powers and duties generally as that of chief of police. (1978 Code § 10-1-14-2)
