The City’s authority and regulation of the following signs is limited in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.
(a) Signs erected and maintained pursuant to and in discharge of any governmental function or required by any law, ordinance, or governmental regulations are exempt from these regulations.
(b) Signs along interstate and primary highways shall conform to the requirements of the Ohio Revised Code, Chapter 5516, and regulations adopted thereto, in addition to conforming to the City of Girard zoning regulations.
(c) Off-Premises and On-Premises signs shall be classified as a business use and be permitted in all districts zoned for Business, Commercial, and Industrial purposes, subject, however, to additional requirements as listed in this chapter.
(d) For the purpose of these regulations, the word “sign” does not include the flag, pennant, badge, or insignia of any governmental agency or charitable, religious, education, or similar organization.
(e) Commemorative plaques placed by recognized historical agencies.
(f) Signs within a stadium, open air theatre, shopping center, arena, or other use which signs can be viewed only by the persons within such stadium, open air theatre, shopping center, arena or other use.
(g) Directional signs, incidental signs, and nameplates.
