(a) Legal counsel shall be employed for the City pursuant to Geneva City Charter Section 10(6), and the person employed as such counsel shall be known as the City Solicitor.
(b) The City Solicitor shall be an attorney at law, admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio. It shall be the duty of the City Solicitor to act as attorney and counsel for the City and the officers thereof in their official capacity, and as such attorney shall prosecute and defend all actions by or against the City or any department or officer thereof, and to prosecute such contested criminal cases, involving ordinance violations, through trial and appeal as are designated by the Chief of Police or the City Manager, and to perform such other legal services in connection with ordinance violations as are requested by the Chief of Police or the City Manager during the term of employment and to render legal opinions to Council and to any officer of the City upon request in writing.
(c) The City Solicitor shall attend Council meetings upon the request of the City Manager and/or President of Council by official notice.
(d) The salary of the City Solicitor shall be fifty-two thousand dollars ($52,000) annually, payable biweekly. There shall be no additional compensation over and above the salary herein set forth paid to the City Solicitor.
(e) The City Solicitor is authorized to retain an assistant to act in his or her behalf, as the Solicitor deems necessary, at no additional compensation from the City.
