There is hereby created a Police Department, an executive department of the village. The Police Department shall consist of the Chief of Police and of the number of Captains, Lieutenants, Sergeants and Patrol Officers as may be provided from time to time by the Village Council. In the absence of a Village Police Department, the Gardner Village Council is expressly authorized to contract with the County of Grundy and/or the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department for contractual police services throughout the Village of Gardner as the Gardner Village Council may deem reasonable or appropriate and to authorize and approve the expenditures of sums as the Gardner Village Council may determine.
