§ 8-7-1 DEFINITIONS.
   For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates of requires a different meaning.
   BOD (BIOCHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND). The quantity of oxygen utilized in the biochemical oxidation of organic matter under standard laboratory procedure in five days at 20°C, expressed in milligrams per liter.
   COD (CHEMICAL OXYGEN DEMAND). The quantity of oxygen utilized in the chemical oxidation of organic matter under standard laboratory procedure, expressed in milligrams per liter.
   CONTRIBUTOR. Any person, firm, corporation, government, agency, organization, institution or others responsible for the production of domestic, commercial or industrial waste which is directly or indirectly discharged into the city’s sanitary sewer system or should be so discharged under the provisions of the Sewer Use Ordinance.
   INDUSTRIAL WASTES. The liquid wastes from industrial manufacturing processes, trade or business as distinct from sanitary sewage.
   NH3-N. The quantity of total ammonia as nitrogen determined under standard laboratory procedure, expressed in milligrams per liter.
   SEWAGE WORKS. All facilities for collecting, pumping, treating or disposing of sewage.
   SUSPENDED SOLIDS. The solids that either float on the surface or are in suspension in water, sewage or other liquids, and which are removable by laboratory filtering.
   TOTAL NITROGEN. The quantity of total nitrogen defined by Iowa DNR under standard laboratory procedure, expressed in milligrams per liter.
   TOTAL PHOSPHOROUS. The quantity of total phosphorous defined by Iowa DNR under standard laboratory procedure, expressed in milligrams per liter.
   WASTEWATER SUPERINTENDENT. The Superintendent of wastewater treatment plant of the city, or his or her authorized deputy, agent, representative.
   WATERWORKS. The Water Department of the city.
