For the purpose of this chapter, the following definitions shall apply unless the context clearly indicates of requires a different meaning.
ADJACENT WATERS. All that part of the Mississippi River lying between the main channel of said river and the waterfront.
FLOAT. Any landing stage, launch house, boat stall or other structure of any kind floating on the river or supported from its bed and used or designed to be used for the discharge or taking on of passengers or freight in connection with any waterborne craft or for the protection, mooring or housing of any craft.
FLOATATION DEVICE. Any raft, diving platform, landing stage, launch house, boat stall or other waterborne structure of any kind floating on the river.
HOUSEBOAT. Any craft without inboard propelling motor or engine and used or designed to be used as living quarters for one or more persons.
IMPROVED WATERFRONT. All that portion of the waterfront of the city, between the east bank of what is known as “Prison Creek” (in the east part of the city adjacent to the Fort Madison Water Company facilities) and the extended west line of 11th Street.
LARGE CRAFT. All steamboats, motorboats, barges and other watercraft having an overall length (exclusive of stage and stern wheel) of 80 feet or more.
LEASE. A formal written lease executed by the Parks Board as lessor, or a formal grant from the said Board entered upon the records of such Board.
LESSEE. The tenant in any lease executed by the Parks Board or the grantee in any formal grant by the said Board.
OFFICIAL CONSENT. The formal consent of the Parks Board. The same may be expressed by written permit or lease. All OFFICIAL CONSENT shall be revocable at any time at the discretion of the said Board without notice, except as otherwise provided herein.
SMALL CRAFT. All steamboats, motorboats, launches, barges, rowboats, sailboats and other watercraft having an overall length (exclusive of stage and stern wheel) of less than 80 feet.
UNIMPROVED WATERFRONT. All that part of the waterfront of the city, except the improved waterfront as above defined.
WATERCRAFT. Houseboats, large craft, small craft and any waterborne craft.
WATERFRONT. That entire area of land abutting upon and adjacent to the Mississippi River in the city, bounded on the east by an extension of the north line of Madison Township, on the west by the west line of Madison Township, and on the south by the Mississippi River, and on the north by each street first intersecting to the north of the high-water mark, excepting therefrom all land lying between the east bank of Dry Creek and the east line of Section 7 in Madison Township.
