131.02 AGE LIMITS AND RESIDENCES OF ORIGINAL APPOINTEES.
   (a)    No person shall be eligible to receive original appointment to the Police Department, as a police officer, unless the person has reached the age of twenty-one and has, not more than one hundred twenty days prior to the date of such appointment, passed a physical examination, given by a licensed physician, a physician assistant, a clinical nurse specialist, a certified nurse practitioner, or a certified nurse-midwife, certifying that the applicant is free of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, and showing the applicant meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of a police office as established by the civil service commission having jurisdiction over the appointment. The City shall, prior to making any such appointment, file with the Ohio police and fire pension fund a copy of the report or findings of the licensed physician, physician assistant, clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse practitioner, or certified nurse-midwife. The professional fee for such physical examination shall be paid by the civil service commission. There shall be no maximum age for original appointment as referenced in Ohio R.C. 124.41; however, the person shall be a resident of the continental United States.
   (b)    Pursuant to Ohio R.C. 9.481(B)(2) to ensure adequate response times by the Police Department to emergencies or disasters, as a condition of employment, all applicants for the Police Department shall reside either in Sandusky County where the political subdivision (Fremont) is located or in any adjacent county in the State of Ohio, or signify in writing his or her intention to become, within a year after appointment, a resident of Sandusky County or an adjacent county.
