240.34 REINSTATEMENT.
   (a)   Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in Section 240.10, upon approval of the City Council, an applicant who previously served in the Police Department and leaves the Department in good standing may be reinstated to the Department as a lateral entry without taking the written exam.
   (b)   Such reinstatement shall be conditioned upon:
      (1)   That a vacancy in the Department exists at the time of reinstatement;
      (2)   That not more than 36 months have passed since the time the applicant left the Police Department;
      (3)   That the applicant successfully passes a polygraph test and background check; and
      (4)   That the applicant shows proof of being certified as a peace officer in the State of Illinois or can obtain that certification within 90 days of the application.
